ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court has foiled an attempt to rob the national exchequer of Rs 208 billion. The plan to loot the national exchequer was launched in January 2019. Asad Umar and Advisor Razzaq Dawood kept Prime Minister Imran Khan in the dark and on August 27, 2019, Rs 417 billion was forgiven through a presidential ordinance.

These views were expressed by analyst Sohail Iqbal Bhatti in his YouTube video. He further said that the Supreme Court, while delivering its judgment in the GIDC case yesterday, ordered the companies to return the money to the government. In this regard, the esteemed court has ordered to collect the money in 24 installments. It may be recalled that under the Gas Infrastructure Development Cess (GIDC) till December 2018, various companies owed Rs 417 billion, of which six fertilizer companies owe Rs 138 billion.

The textile industry owes Rs 42 billion, IPPs Rs 7 billion, Karachi Electric Rs 57 billion, CNG Rs 80 billion and general industry Rs 4 billion. Sui Southern and Sui Northern Companies owe Rs 78 billion while other small companies owe billions of rupees. The government waived half of that amount through a presidential ordinance, but the ordinance was withdrawn after strong criticism.

Sources said that Prime Minister Imran Khan is angry with Asad Umar and Razzaq Dawood after the recent Supreme Court decision and asked them why they have tried to harm the national exchequer to provide relief to the industrialists. Sources claimed that the Prime Minister has also sought a report from the two leaders in this regard, after which it is expected that action may be taken against the persons involved in the matter.
